To develop a caring and understanding environment both inside and outside of school.

Health and Social Care Curriculum Intent

To develop curious and caring learners who can apply their skills and knowledge to help those with disabilities and care needs. By understanding the relevance of health and social care, students will be best able to understand others around them as well as respond to the needs of others in their chosen field.

We focus on the following key areas across the course:

Developments.  We look at how different events and factors can affect how people change over time. This includes looking at physical, intellectual, emotional and social influences.

Services. We look at the different medical and social care services available, indicating which service would best suit a particular need. This allows students to acquire a better understanding of the world of health care and the role it plays in our development.

Critical Thinking. We look at different case studies and assess in terms of development how outside factors might have impacted the patient in comparison to others. Further, we look at how a person could improve their health and wellbeing based on their current data.

Analysis and evaluation.  We use literacy skills in order to analyse case studies allowing us to draw up conclusions as well as suggesting ways to help and support the individual. We also use health data in order to suggest ways a person could adapt their lifestyle to help their wellbeing.

Fluency of reading.  Reading underpins our access to case studies, and we take opportunities to develop our reading skills.  Modelling is used to show context and to deepen our understanding of people’s needs or developments.  By applying these techniques students are more able to focus their writing skills.
