Overview & Rationale
At The Marvell College, we believe that extended learning is a fundamental aspect of the educational experience, rather than an optional extra. Below outlines the reasons why extended learning holds significant importance in our school:
- Enhances academic achievement by reinforcing content taught in class.
- Develops essential life skills, such as time management, responsibility and self-discipline.
- Fosters a deeper understanding and promotes critical thinking.
- Consolidates learning and prepares students for exams and future learning.
Extended Learning timetable
- Years 7 and 8 receive Extended Learning weekly from English and Maths. All other subjects are set fortnightly.
- Years 9, 10, and 11 receive Extended Learning weekly from English, Maths, and Science. All other subjects are set fortnightly.
How is Extended Learning completed?
- Most Extended Learning is set through Seneca Learning, an online platform that helps students master key skills and knowledge.
- Some subjects use other methods to set Extended Learning.
- All assigned Extended Learning can be tracked using the Edulink app, where you can monitor completion.
- Students can study their subjects at any time on the Seneca platform.
Parental monitoring
- Parents/carers can monitor and view their child’s Extended Learning through the Seneca app. Invitations are sent directly from Seneca. If you are yet to link your account to your childs, please follow this link, link to my child’s Seneca.
- Parents can also monitor completion and other forms of Extended Learning through the Edulink app.
Extended Learning clubs
- Extended Learning clubs run on a Monday and Tuesday lunch time. Students will be able to eat their lunch and complete any outstanding work.
