Art, Design and Technology Curriculum Intent

The curriculum has been designed to expose students to a range of learning experiences which encourages students to develop both skills and creativity with the aim to prepare learners for future learning and employment.

The curriculum is designed to expose students to different materials and techniques within all aspects of art and design technology. Students are also able to use the transferable skills from all curriculum areas throughout the creative design process – including mathematics and English.

Key Stage 3 incorporates all aspects of art, craft and design including drawing skills, cultural investigations, portraiture, art movements, food technology, CAD CAM, textiles, graphics and woodwork. This is achieved through a combination of practical and theory-based lessons, enabling pupils to fully realise the skills, techniques and processes essential for Key Stage 4.  Food and nutrition are studied as a unit to allow all students to learn and develop valuable life skills.
