Through studying Creative Media Production, our aim is to encourage students to see how the way we communicate is ever changing and allow students to engage with media product creation to prepare themselves for the world of modern media. It is also our aim to instil an ethos of creativity, enterprise, responsibility and resourcefulness within our students.

Media Curriculum Intent

The Media department aims to support students as they enter the world of multiplatform media products and examine their various purposes. Through the study of a wide range of media products, including Mobile applications and Print Media, students can become confident in both their analytical skills and creation skills when approaching different products from the Media industry. We aim to maintain a high standard of literacy as this is a key part of offering clear communication through a variety of Media products.

Inference.  We build a strong foundation on the skill of inference so that students can confidently explore and discuss a range of products from across the Media industry.

Analysis. Exploring a variety of media products is a key skill to enable students to fully understand and create their own. Developing the ability to appreciate and explore vocabulary and techniques used to engage, entertain, and inform target audiences is key to the study of Creative Media Production. We endeavour to encourage our students to develop contextual and critical awareness of the Media products they encounter in order to best emulate style and substance.

Creating for a range of purposes and audiences.  Building students’ ability to use digital editing software, ranging from the written word to photo editing programmes, for a variety of different purposes is a key skill of the Creative Media Production curriculum.  Employing practice-based learning to develop both theory and practice in media techniques provides a wealth of real-world learning opportunities including working with the Creative Media industry.
